THE CURCH OF BARNABA Its single nave makes this an excellent display space. Indeed, the church has been deconsecrated and is now used for this purpose. You will find it open particularly during the Art Biennale. It contains various paintings by important artists such as Palma il Giovane and Paolo Veronese, but is more well-known for another personality, now much more famous: Indiana Jones. In "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade", Steven Spielberg's film with Sean Connery, Harrison Ford manages to get into the basement of the church (since when have there ever been basements in Venice, with all the water we've got under our houses?), and after various adventures with "sewer rats" (we've got plenty of these, though) he comes out of a manhole in campo San Barnaba, amongst the customers of a cafe. If you go to http://www.indianajones.de/indy3/texte/crusade_15.php you will see a photo of this moment. Our big shop is on the left of the bridge in the background.<< Back |
